Nikkei Robata, Pasay – affordable Japanese-Peruvian cuisine
Japanese cuisine has always been a crowd favorite among foodies. While it’s a no-brainer that most of us love Japanese food as is, the reimagination of classic Japanese dishes can be a satisfying adventure.
To explore this, we went to Nikkei Robata at Newport Mall in Pasay, a minimalist upscale restaurant that offers affordable Japanese-Peruvian dishes as well as daily promos – from P99 sushi rolls to happy hours. If you visit at the right time, you get the best of both worlds.
Yakitori dishes
Nikkei Robata is one of the three variations of Nikkei restaurants in the metro. This restaurant features Yakitori dishes (from P275, ~USD5.06) that distinguish it from its sister-branches: Nikkei and Nikkei Nama.
You can opt to get a thigh or wing Yakitori depending on your preference. But if you want to try them both, go for the Yakitori Platter, which includes two pieces of each part for P650 (~USD11.81).
Besides Yakitori, they also offer classic Japanese dishes such as sushi rolls, sashimi, and bento boxes. For a taste of Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, you can try their Nama bowls (from P450, ~USD8.18) as well as dishes cooked on their Robata (method of cooking at various speeds over hot charcoal) grill – from steak and pork ribs to salmon and cod.
New set meals for friends and family
The classic set meal includes Tempura Moriawase, yakitori, and spicy tuna and smoked salmon rolls.
Aside from the Yakitori dishes, they also offer Classic (P5,995, ~USD110.20) and Premium (P7,995, ~USD146.97) set meals that can serve up to six people.
Both sets comprise various dishes such as Yakitori which you can pair with gohan (rice). Other dishes include their Fideo Saltado pasta, sushi rolls, and Tempura Moriawase for a hefty meal with friends and family.
What’s more, they also offer skewers of lightly grilled tamago (Japanese omelette) and quail eggs to go with your main dishes.
Do note that these set meals are exclusive to the restaurant’s Newport Mall branch only.
Promos and membership points
The restaurant offers daily promos. You can get 5 pieces of selected sushi rolls such as Spicy Tuna and Panko for just P99 (~USD1.84) from Mondays to Thursdays, 11am-5pm.
Enjoy red wine, Fantasy Negroni, and Sake Sangria during happy hour.
Additionally, they have daily happy hour from 2pm-6pm on selected drinks. You can choose three drinks – from wine to cocktails (from P595, ~USD11.07).
Apart from the promos, you’re also in luck if you happen to have membership points from the casino at Newport World Resorts. One of the perks of the membership points is you can exchange them for dining at Nikkei Robata. You can get a meal almost for free!
Latest Nikkei Robata branch
Since the Newport Mall branch is still fairly new, you can expect more features to come in the future.
Make sure to keep a look out for future updates as they’ll soon have an al fresco area where you can wine and dine accompanied by a spectacular city view.
Visit now and you may well be one of the restaurant’s first guests before they start getting busy.
