Senior citizen joins Miss Universe Philippines pageant
In recent years, the Miss Universe Organization embraced more diverse beauty, removing restrictions such as height and age. Yet, pageant-loving Filipinos were still taken by surprise when Quezon City revealed one of its potential Miss Universe Philippines candidates, Jocelyn Cubales.
The 69-year-old beauty is one of the 15 candidates vying to represent QC in Miss Universe Philippines 2024. Quezon City will crown its MUPH representative on 5th February.
No more age restriction

In September 2023, the Miss Universe Organization removed its age restrictions across all of its competitions, allowing women over 28 to compete. They also introduced rules that embraced contestants who are transgender women, divorced women, wives, and mothers.
Notably, in 2021, the organization also removed its height requirement, which allowed TikTok creator and now NYLON Manila editor-in-chief Ayn Bernos to join the MUPH pageant at 5’3″.

MUPH – Quezon City isn’t Cubales’ first foray into beauty pageants.
She was crowned Mrs. Philippines Germany in 2000, an Mrs. Asia International Global and Mrs. Ecotourism in 2014. In 2017, she represented South Asia in Mrs. Universe.
The candidate also boasts an impressive, diverse professional background. She’s a fashion designer, naturopathic and alternative medicine doctor, and a former Saudi Arabian Airlines flight attendant.
She even starred in a film alongside veteran actress Anita Linda and was nominated for Best New Movie Actress at the 34th Star Awards for Movies in 2018.
According to her pageant profile, Cubales “believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit.”
