Filipinos all around the world bring us pride in a variety of fields. This time, viral Fil-Am comedian Jo Koy is etching his name in history as the first Filipino-American to host the Golden Globes.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast in the US on Sunday, January 7th, at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET on CBS and Paramount Plus. For viewers in the Philippines, the awards will air on Monday, January 8th, at 9 am PHT on Lionsgate Play.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements in film and American television from 2023.

In the film category, Barbie and Oppenheimer lead the nominations with 9 and 8 nods, respectively. As for television, Succession takes the lead with 9 nominations, followed by The Bear and Only Murders in the Building, each competing in 5 categories.

This year, the Golden Globes introduced two new categories: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy or Television.

Last year, the awards ceremony was hosted by the award-winning black comedian Jerrod Carmichael.


Who is Jo Koy?

Jo Koy is a Filipino-American stand-up comedian who began his career in 1994. After decades of successful television gigs, he scored a Netflix comedy special in 2017 and another in 2019. Since then, he has sold out comedy shows in stadiums around the world.

In 2022, he delved into acting and took the lead role in the film Easter Sunday which boasts an all-Filipino cast.
