Animal Lover Sets Up Community Pawntry For Stray Pets, Because Furry Friends Are Our Neighbors Too

The community pantries that have been popping up recently in several parts of the Philippines have indeed shown how humans can help one another. But for Avien Rosete, an animal rights advocate in Makati, uplifting a community wouldn’t be complete without caring for its animals. 

Recognizing that animals are our neighbors too, Rosete, along with her fellow animal lovers, has set up a community pantry for stray pets at 107 Kalayaan Avenue, Makati.

Beside a tree and near a dental clinic, the pawntry has been feeding stray cats and dogs with its supplies of food and water, courtesy of kind donors who have been sustaining the initiative.

Rosete recognizes animals as part of a community

According to Rosete in an interview with the Philippine Star, she was inspired to start the feeding program for stray animals because for her, animals are part of our community as well. “Siguro po ang inspiration to start this initiative is, aside from humans, parte pa rin ng community ang mga hayop. Sila rin po ay may buhay at nakakaramdam,” she said. 

(Maybe the inspiration to start this initiative is that, aside from humans, animals are part of our community too. They also have life and feelings.)

If you live nearby the pawntry and also want to show your love to our stray pets, you can donate pet food and other pet supplies to their pawntry at 107 Kalayaan Avenue, Makati beside Abalos-Casas Dental Clinic.

You can also have your donation delivered to Tower 1 Lobby, The Columns Condominium in Ayala Avenue, cor. Buendia, Barangay Bel-Air, Makati. Cash donations are accepted via GCash, PayMaya, UnionBank, Metrobank, and BPI.

Promoting animals’ welfare

Aside from donating and setting up a pawntry, Rosete added that there are lots of other ways for us to support stray animals. These include neutering pets, adopting rescued stray animals from animal welfare organizations, building small feeding areas for strays, and cooperating with our barangays and local government units in various animal welfare activities. 

These are ways we can also ensure a healthy community as well – when everyone, including animals, are taken care of.

Community pantries have proven that the bayanihan spirit is alive in times of crisis. Thankfully, through these initiatives, the limelight is now on animals who are part of our local communities too.
