Unrequited love about two college best friends

In case you forgot, I’m Drunk, I Love You follows two college best friends Carson (Maja Salvador) and Dio (Paulo Avelino). Days after their graduation, the two go on a holiday with friends to the surf town of La Union. Beyond marking an end to their college years, the trip also serves as an avenue for the two to settle their feelings for each other.
The film is especially relatable to students from the University of the Philippines, as the lead characters come from the same university. But it has generally been beloved for its universal themes on young love, longing, and coming of age. It’s been one of the most beloved romantic movies since its release – in fact, during a virtual roundtable led by Lockdown Cinema Club in 2020, Salvador weighed in on the enduring popularity of the film.

“Siguro kahit kailan mo pa siya ipalabas, kahit paulit-ulit mo siyang ipalabas, meron at merong makaka-relate,” Salvador said. This can be translated as: “Maybe even if you release the film any time, even if you release it over and over again, there will always be people who can relate to it.”
“Realidad. Kasi may parte sa buhay natin na may ganoon kang kuwento,” Salvador added. (“Reality. Because there’s a part of our lives where you have such a story.”)
We’re excited to feel all the feelings again with our friends by watching this film!
I’m Drunk, I Love You streaming on Netflix
There’s a reason why many of us haven’t moved on from the classic film. More often than not, many of us have been in the same shoes as Carson and Dio whose story teaches us a thing or two about what it’s like growing up while confronting all the highs and lows of falling in love.
