Cats and dogs social distancing by themselves
Our favorite furry friends have always had something to teach us, more than just giving us love and warmth.
For instance, during the past few weeks of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), cats and dogs showed us how to obey community protocols, to the shame of hooman quarantine violators.
Cats of Brgy. Holy Spirit
In front of a public market in Brgy, Holy Spirit, Quezon City, stray cats were seen falling in line meters apart from each other, observing social distancing measures by following visual cues as captured by local Coleen Joice Aquino.

“Social distancing daw sabi nila miming. Buti pa sila sumusunod. Good job,” (Social distancing according to cats. Good for them that they’re following [orders]. Good job.) Aquino captioned in her Facebook post on 10th May, showing the photos of the law-abiding cats.
Netizens were inspired by the cats, sharing Aquino’s post over 16,000 times. Ernesto Delos Santos asked Aquino if the cats were guarding the vegetables being sold in front of them or following social distancing. He also warned that the store shouldn’t sell fish as the cats are sure to “attack” the store.
“Don’t sell fish, the cats will attack them,” Delos Santos added.

Dogs social distancing while ‘waiting for relief goods’
On the other side of the fence, dogs are showing us hoomans what it means to be a responsible citizen too in times of a pandemic.
In a Facebook post by Jack and the Balbons on 31st March, dogs were seen following social distancing orders by staying apart from each other while awaiting ‘relief goods’ from their “mayor” – or rather, the doggo head of their pack.
“Social distancing habang namimigay ng relief good si Mayor Biko,” said the post. (Social distancing while Mayor Biko is giving away relief good[s].)

Netizens praised the dogs, sharing pictures of their own pets following quarantine protocols and awaiting their “food packs” in the post’s comments section.

Animals in the time of COVID-19
As COVID-19 is here to stay in the coming months, social distancing is the way to go. This means we have to sacrifice our physical interactions for a while to lessen the risk of spreading the virus. If our cats and dogs can do it, surely, we humans can do social distancing right too.
