Traveling is the last thing on our minds these days, but it’s good to hear that while we set aside our luggage for a while, local travel infrastructure development doesn’t stop.
For instance, the new, second terminal of the Clark International Airport in Pampanga is 99% complete already, according to the Department of Transportation, and will be fully operational by January 2021.

Having begun its construction in April 2018, the almost finished terminal is about 112,000 square meters.
It’s most recognizable for its roof arches which took inspiration from the natural wonders of Mount Arayat in Pampanga and the mountain ranges of Zambales. On a clear day, these sights are even visible from the terminal’s windows.
The wood in the arches is made up of white spruce imported from Austria, and is the same material used in the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
The terminal is envisioned to help in amping up economic activity in the Central Luzon area, as it’s expected to triple Clark Airport’s current passenger capacity from 4.2 million annual passengers to 12.2 million a year.
“Envisioned to be the keystone in spurring economic progress and development in Central Luzon, the new passenger terminal building, once completed, will boost the operational capacity of the CRK, and will triple its passenger volume,” the Department of Transportation stated.
This will also help ease the congestion in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay.
The number of Filipino travelers is growing exponentially through the years, thanks to budget airlines’ piso fares. And domestic travellers will be sure to troop into our airports again once this pandemic is all over – so a new, local terminal is the upgrade we all need as we travel again after being stuck at home for a long time.
