PAGASA Warns Filipinos Of Temperatures From 52 Degrees Celsius Or Higher In May

Temperatures from 52 degrees and up in May

Following the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration‘s (PAGASA) announcement of the official start of the summer season, the weather bureau warns Filipinos of potential extreme temperatures in April and May.

Filipinos may experience “danger” and “extreme danger” heat index levels during this period. “Danger” ranges from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius, while “extreme danger” is from 52 degrees Celsius and above. Particularly, temperatures are expected to peak in May.

Despite the summer season having just started, the country has already recorded “danger” heat index levels in the Month of March. Last week, Puerto Princesa in Luzon and Cotabato in Mindanao hit 42-degree temperatures.

Meanwhile, the highest heat index recorded in March was in La Union, reaching 47 degrees Celsius on March 19.

Extreme temperatures of 52 degrees Celcius and above could lead to heat cramps and exhaustion, and potentially result in heat stroke, according to PAGASA.

As a precaution, the public is advised to drink plenty of water and minimize outdoor exposure.
