The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature is one of the most prestigious and long-standing literary competitions in the Philippines. Established in 1950, it was created in honor of Don Carlos Palanca Sr., businessman and patron of the arts.
The awards aim to recognize and encourage excellence in Philippine literature. Winning a Palanca Award is a significant achievement for Filipino writers as it gives recognition and prestige, and helps bring their work to a wider audience.
Over the years, the awards have played a vital role in fostering a vibrant literary culture in the Philippines by providing a platform for emerging and established writers to showcase their talents and contribute to the country’s literary landscape.

The competition covers various categories with different divisions so that it may be a platform for all types of literary writers. The categories are as follows:
English Division
Filipino Division
Regional Languages Division
Kabataan Division
