If there’s one flavor that reminds us of being a Filipino, ube, with its bright purple hue, is probably on top of our minds. It’s a flavor we fondly remember as part of our childhoods, and is often served as a ube halaya dessert or offered as a sorbetes flavor by your local ice cream vendor.
It’s no wonder then that we love to create various renditions of ube we haven’t done before. From Peachboy Restaurant to The Fat Seed Cafe + Roastery, here are 10 ube dessert places in Metro Manila crafting unique ube desserts to satisfy your unlimited purple yam cravings.

Spoiling our cravings for ube, Peach Boy Restaurant’s Ube Lava Pancake (P215, ~USD4.51) is a purple explosion of five pancakes drenched in ube halaya sauce. The pancakes have actual ube fillings too, as if satisfying our eyesight with everything purple isn’t enough.
For the sugar-conscious, ask for less syrup. These five fluffy stacks of pancakes are good for 2-3 persons – or more, considering that we’re talking about five fluffy pieces of pancake goodness.

Dunkin Donuts Philippines finally heeded our call when they launched their ube munchkins in October 2019 – a new flavor addition to the brand’s usual butternut munchkins. And as anyone could guess, the new ube munchkins were well-received – for good reasons.
Affordable at P10 (~USD0.09) per piece or P349 (~USD3.17) for a 40-piece bucket, these small, chewy balls are balanced with sweetness and saltiness.

We love Conti’s Mango Bravo cakes, but we love them even more for bringing back the beloved ube flavor to their roster of cakes.
Covered in purple frosting and filled with real purple yam and layers of custard, Conti’s Ube Custard Cake (P935, ~USD8.49) has now established itself as the bakeshop’s classic, ever since it was gone for a while after its launch in 2016. It was relaunched in April 2019 in Conti’s menu to satisfy our cravings for an ube-flavored cake, baked with just the right note of sweetness and texture.

We probably couldn’t ask for more in this layered cake that combines three desserts in one gastronomic goodness. Bellefleur by Beatrix’s Frozen Ube Brazo (price upon request) combines brazo de mercedes, leche flan, and ube, and while it may look too sweet for the sugar-conscious, each layer of the cake complements each other.

Start your mornings with this Ube Cheesedesal (P180, ~USD3.77 per box of 10), filled with cheese filling that will delight your palate. Equal parts soft, fluffy, and creamy, these pandesal can be ordered online from Little Chef’s.

A well-reviewed staple in Providore, this Ube Champorado (P195, ~USD1.77) is from the careful hands of Chef Kalel Chan, crafted with white chocolate tres leches sauce and dessicated coconut.
A crispy danggit or dried salted fish is drizzled on top for a hint of saltiness and to complete the overall look of this unique take on the beloved champorado.

Ube is such a flavor commonly shared by Filipinos that no wonder Scout’s Honor, a local craft cookie shop, had to create their rendition of ube in the Gooey Ube (P95 each, ~USD0.86) cookie.
Aside from the unique flavor, the Gooey Ube cookie is also topped with candied mango strips and marshmallows, balancing out the gooeyness that this craft cookie’s name promises.

Tasting like our favorite puto bumbong, The Fat Seed Cafe + Roastery’s Ube Waffles in Salted Egg Sauce (P325, ~USD6.81 with chicken) are thick and fluffy with a slight hint of ube.
They come with maple syrup and salted egg sauce for an additional layer of texture and taste. These waffles are best paired with the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, but can also be ordered a la carte.
