Photographer’s Rainy Night Shots Of Baguio’s Session Road Capture Magical Wong Kar-Wai Movie Vibes

Photographer’s dreamy shots of Session Road

Session Road is the commercial heart of Baguio City, famous for its long stretch lined with many establishments.

The road has always appealed to locals and tourists alike for its hustle and bustle, but photography hobbyist Melvin Michael Pimentel has brought its charm onto another level by capturing scenes of the road during a rainy night.

To the delight of many netizens, photography hobbyist Melvin Michael Pimentel uploaded his dreamy shots of Session Road on 30th April on the Facebook group Sa Baguio

Easily resembling scenes from Hong Kong film director Wong Kar-wai’s famous movies, Pimentel’s night photos show the lane drenched in rain and dotted with people from different walks of life.

Night photography represents calm and highlights people’s stories

According to Pimentel, he loves how the calmness and peace of the night can bring to light stories of people that we might not easily see at a glance.

“The night represents calmness and peace, for it marks the end of a busy day. Through the [night] photos, there are the subtle stories of people and honest scenes that speak the deepest emotions that we might fail to see at a glance,” Pimentel told The Smart Local Philippines

For instance, many of his photos zoom in on people as subjects. One photo he captioned on Facebook as “momentary” shows a man and a woman seemingly poring over a menu, while another photo he captioned as “dense” depicts a man seemingly ending his day’s hard work by carrying big yellow sacks home.

Pimentel also loves capturing rainy scenes

Pimentel also shared that rainy scenes have been one of his favorite subjects as a hobbyist because the rain provides a combination of chaos and charm to a photo.

“As a hobbyist, I find it amusing to witness what the night holds. Also, I really enjoy taking photos in the rain because of its combination of chaos and charm,” he said.
